SSC CHSL Vacancy Details:-
According to the official SSC CHSL notification, there are approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies.
The notification explicitly states that vacancies are tentative and subject to change. Final vacancies will be determined in due course following document scrutiny from the indenting User Departments. SSC CHSL Post Details and Salary:-
Appointments for the SSC CHSL posts carry All India Service Liability (AISL), meaning selected candidates may be posted anywhere across the country. Selected candidates will remain on probation for two years. Pay scales conform to the 7th Central Pay Commission:

SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria:-
Nationality / Citizenship
A candidate must be either a citizen of India, a subject of Nepal, a subject of Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India (subject to possessing an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India).
Educational Qualification for SSC CHSL (As on 07-10-2026):-
The crucial date for determining educational qualifications is 07-10-2026:
- For Data Entry Operator (DEO) / DEO Grade ‘A’ in Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Staff Selection Commission, and Ministry of Culture: Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized Board or equivalent.
- For LDC/JSA and DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ (all other Ministries/Departments): Candidates must have passed the 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.
- Appearing Candidates: Candidates who have appeared in their 12th standard or equivalent examination can apply, provided their qualifying results are officially declared on or before the cut-off date of 07-10-2026.

SSC CHSL Application Fee:-
- Standard Fee: ₹100/- (One Hundred Rupees only).
- Exempted Categories: Women candidates, Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), and Ex-Servicemen (ESM) eligible for reservation are completely exempted from fee payment.
- Payment Methods: Online payment via BHIM UPI, Net Banking, or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, and RuPay Debit cards.
- Correction Charges: Candidates making corrections during the correction window must pay ₹200/- for the first correction and ₹500/- for a second correction.
SSC CHSL Selection Process:-
The recruitment process consists of sequential stages:
- Tier-I Computer Based Examination: Objective multiple-choice screening examination. Marks are normalized if conducted across multiple shifts.
- Tier-II Computer Based Examination: Comprises multiple sections (Section-I, Section-II, Section-III, and Section-IV) conducted across two sessions. It is mandatory for candidates to appear in and qualify all sections.
- Document Verification (DV): Conducted by the User Ministries/Departments/Organizations after the declaration of the final result.
SSC CHSL Exam Pattern:-
SSC CHSL Tier-I (Computer Based Examination)
- The test consists of Objective Type, Multiple Choice Questions.
- Negative Marking: 0.50 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
- Subjects & Timing: English Language (25 Qs / 50 Marks), General Intelligence (25 Qs / 50 Marks), Quantitative Aptitude (25 Qs / 50 Marks), General Awareness (25 Qs / 50 Marks).
- Duration: 60 Minutes total, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each subject (20 minutes for scribe-eligible candidates).
SSC CHSL Tier-II (Computer Based Examination)
Tier-II consists of two sessions (Session-I & Session-II) held on the same day. Negative marking in Section-I, Section-II, and Section-III is 1 mark for each wrong answer.
- Session-I (Duration: 2 Hours and 15 Minutes):
- Section-I (1 Hour): Mathematical Abilities (30 Qs) & Reasoning and General Intelligence (30 Qs). Total 180 Marks. Sectional timer of 30 minutes for each module (40 minutes for scribe). This section gets automatically closed after one hour.
- Section-II (1 Hour): English Language and Comprehension (40 Qs) & General Awareness (20 Qs). Total 180 Marks. Sectional timer of 40 minutes for English and 20 minutes for GA. This section closes automatically after one hour.
- Section-III (15 Minutes): Computer Knowledge Test (15 Qs). Total 45 Marks (Qualifying). 15 Minutes (20 minutes for scribe).
- Session-II:
- Section-IV (Skill Test/Typing Test): Conducted after a break for re-registration. Includes Part A/B (Skill Test for DEO) and Part C (Typing Test for LDC/JSA).

SSC CHSL Skill Test / Typing Test (Section-IV):-
The test is conducted on a computer during Session-II and is mandatory but qualifying in nature. Errors will be calculated up to 2 decimal places.
- Part A (DEO in designated Ministries under Para 8.1): Speed of 15,000 Key Depressions per hour on Computer. The duration is 15 minutes, containing about 3700-4000 key-depressions.
- Part B (DEO in other Departments): Data Entry Speed of 8,000 Key Depressions per hour on Computer. The duration is 15 minutes, containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions.
- Part C (Typing Test for LDC/JSA):
- English Medium: Typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) (approx. 10500 key depressions per hour).
- Hindi Medium: Typing speed of 30 words per minute (w.p.m.) (approx. 9000 key depressions per hour). Candidates opting for Hindi must type in Mangal Font only.
- Duration: 10 minutes (15 minutes for candidates eligible for scribe).
Special Requirements for Border Roads Organization (BRO):-
For candidates opting for vacancies in the Border Roads Organization (BRO), the following specific rules apply as per the SSC CHSL notification:
- Gender Restriction: Only male candidates are eligible for the vacancy(ies), if any reported, in the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
- Physical Standards & Tests: Candidates must fulfill the required Physical Standard, Physical Efficiency Tests, and Medical Standards as per Annexure-XVI of the notification.
- Physical Efficiency Test (Schedule-I): Candidates must mandatorily pass a One Mile Run to be completed within 10 Minutes.
Important Points Before Applying for SSC CHSL:-
- Live Photograph Capture: Candidates are not required to have a pre-existing photograph. The application module captures a live photograph. Candidates should not wear a cap, mask, or glasses/spectacles while capturing the photo. In no case should the candidate capture the photographs of his/her pre-existing photograph; such applications will be rejected.
- Scanned Signature: Signature must be uploaded in JPEG/JPG format (10 to 20 KB). Image dimension of the signature should be about 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height).
- Multiple Applications: Candidates should submit only one online application. In case more than one application of a candidate with different registration numbers is detected, all the applications will be rejected by the Commission and his candidature for the examination will be cancelled.
- Post Preference Submission: Preference for various posts and departments will be taken through an Online Option Form before the declaration of final results. Candidates who do not submit their post preference will not be considered for any post.
How to Apply Online for SSC CHSL 2026:-
- New One-Time Registration (OTR): Visit the official website at ssc.gov.in. All candidates must complete the new OTR; earlier OTRs generated on the old website (ssc.nic.in) will not be functional.
- Login: Log in using your generated Registration Number and password.
- Select Examination: Go to “Latest Notifications” and click “Apply” under the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026.
- Fill Application Form: Verify auto-filled details, enter qualifying educational details, select three preferred examination centres within the same Region, and choose your Typing Test medium.
- Live Photo & Signature: Capture your live photograph following the camera instructions and upload your scanned signature.
